ALGERIA SOUHANE MASSACRE
November 27, 1997 - Algeria
The second of three massacres by Armed Islamic Group (GIA ) on the small mountain town of Souhane leaves a further 18 men, 3 women an 4 children dead. The town with just 4,000 inhabitants was attacked in an even worse massacre in August where 64 were killed. During it's reign of terror the GIA is believed to have been responsible for the murder of between 2,000 and 5,000 innocent civilians.
