    The first commercial television broadcasting began in Britain by ITV (Independent Television). Rediffusion, serving the London area was the first on the air. TV sets sprouted extra boxes, with a rotary tuner for the new Band Three - higher frequency transmissions. The first advertisement was shown at 9:12 pm showing Gibbs SR toothpaste in a block of ice, produced by AB-Path. Franchises in other areas of the country started up over the following years. The last was Channel serving the Channel Islands, on 1 Sep 1962. (The world's first commercial TV station was WNBT, New York, which had begun commerical broadcasting on 1 July 1941.)

    INDONESIA BIRD FLU OUTBREAK
    September 22, 2005 - Indonesia

    Three children in Indonesia who have died in the last week and exhibited symptoms of the H5N1 strain of the Bird Flu virus are being tested and if positive will join the confirmed 4 deaths in Indonesia from H5N1 strain of Avian Flu. Indonesia is one of the only countries who have not carried out mass culling of domestic birds following an outbreak with other countries culling many millions of chickens and other domestic birds.
