    February 19, 0 - USA

Feb 19, Leschi, a Nisqually American Indian leader from the Puget Sound region, was hanged a mile east of Fort Steilacoom. On June 10, 1857, he had been convicted of the murder of Abrams Moses, and was sentenced to hang. Appeals to the Supreme Court delayed the initial hanging. In 2004 seven judges at a Historical Court of Inquiry and Justice unanimously decided that regardless of who shot Moses, The killing was a legitimate act of war, immune from prosecution. Consequently, Leschi was declared exonerated of Abrams Moses murder. In 2011 Richard Kluger authored The Bitter Waters of Medicine Creek: A Tragic Clash Between White and Native America.
