TODAY IN HISTORY

    PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH
    August 5, 2001 - United States

President George W. Bush got a deluxe, six-hour physical carried out by 14 doctors his first since taking office. Apart from having a few skin lesions removed, the physicians deemed him to be in excellent health and liable to stay that way for the rest of his presidency. The president sneaks the occasional cigar, but it doesn’t seem to have affected him much.

    LIMITED TEST BAN TREATY
August 5, 1963 - Britain, America and Russia

Britain, America and Russia signed a Limited Nuclear Test Ban Treaty at Moscow to prohibit nuclear weapons tests "or any other nuclear explosion" in the atmosphere, in outer space, and under water. Underground nuclear explosions must not cause "radioactive debris to be present outside the territorial limits" their own country. The nuclear powers thus demonstrated a common goal to "an end to the contamination of man's environment by radioactive substances." The treaty was the result of over eight years of negotiations resolving issues of verification and deep-seated differences in attitudes to arms control and security. A total of 108 countries had signed before the LNTB Treaty entered into force 10 Oct 1963.

But here's the truth: Sometimes the more things change, the more they stay the same. And sometimes, oh, sometimes change is good. Sometimes change is everything...."
  • Happiness
    by Thomas Jefferson

"...Our greatest happiness does not depend on the condition of life in which chance has placed us, but is always the result of a good conscience, good health, occupation, and freedom in all just pursuits...."

Make sure lighting doesn't create a glare on your screen. When spending long periods at your keyboard, take a break now and then to rest your eyes to reduce fatigue. Also, don't forget to blink. Your eyes need to stay lubricated to feel comfortable. More vehicles
    about Stolen On New Year's

More vehicles are stolen on New Year's Day than any other holiday throughout the year. (So does that mean thieves are having their last fling before changing their ways or are they trying for a big score to start the New Year?)
