    PROTECTOGRAPH
    August 9, 1904 - New York, U.S.A.

The Protectograph check-writing machine was patented under the title Printing-Stamp by Libanus McLouth Todd of Rochester, New York (U.S. Patent No. 766,853). It was designed to protect against check forgers by marking and embossing the amount on a check, thereby preventing the amount thus shown to be later dishonestly changed to a higher value. The apparatus had co-axial printing wheels with lines of raised type forming a series of numbers and suitable words. A check would be placed between the wheels and a platen. An inked felt-covered roller applied ink to the type as the wheels were turned to select the chosen imprint. The platen surface had a yielding material, such as rubber. When actuated by a hand-lever, it was raised from beneath the check and embossed the paper against the type.

    COLDEST TEMPERATURE ON EARTH SURFACE
    August 9, 2010 - Antartica

the record low surface temperature in Antartica was -135.8ºF (-93.2ºC), colder than the freezing point of dry ice. It was determined from analysis of remote-sensing satellite data later announced on 9 Dec 2013 at the annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union. The location was in pockets scattered near a high ice ridge between Dome Argus and Dome Fuji, two summits on the East Antarctic Plateau. August is winter in the Southern Hemisphere, and the temperature resulted from the geographical nature and weather conditions in the pockets. The World Meteorological Organization official records are for air temperatures made a couple of meters above the surface. That recorded lowest temperature, made in Jul 1983 at the Vostok Research Station, Antarctica, remains at -128.6ºF (89.2ºC).

  • Until a man duplicates a blade of grass
by Earth Day, Thomas Alva Edison Inventor

"...Until a man duplicates a blade of grass, Nature can laugh at his so-called scientific knowledge. Remedies from chemicals will never stand in favorable comparison with the products of Nature, the living cell of a plant, the final result of the rays of the sun, the mother of all life...."

The article is dedicated to the description of radio controlled cars based on the remote control system, their types, designation and ways of exploitation.

ARTICLE CONTENT :

Radio controlled trucks, or RC cars as they are commonly referred to, are a fun way of spending time both for children and adults. Their work is founded on a system of remote control. One more type of remote control trucks is wire connection cars, but radio controlled cars are more popular. Radio controlled trucks are usually divided into two groups: toy model trucks produced for children and hobby-grade model which is designated for adolescents and adult people.

These 2 versions of radio controlled cars are different, but still have something in common. Both of them constitute copies of real vehicles and are controlled through radio control. But there're a certain number of distinctive differences between these two variants. First of all, a toy variant is a solid plastic representation of the car when at the same time the hobby-grade model is very close to a real-life vehicle in relation to outward appearance and individual parts. The hobby-grade models are designed in the same manner like a real truck.

Furthermore, this variant demands the same service and maintenance like you are the owner of a real life vehicle. There are various methods of powering hobby-grade RC cars. They could be electrically, fuel or even nitro powered. Making a decision which one to take isn't that easy. All the versions have their advantages and disadvantages that should be carefully thought over. For instance, an electric powered RC car will be lighter that a petrol run one, but the first will be slower than the last one.

Whatever the case, these trucks are so intricate, that every enthusiast can change his electric car into a fuel run one, or vice versa, without particular efforts.
What is so particular about hobby-grade radio-controlled cars that attracts attention of numerous men of all ages to them. In general, it's their complexity. It is not a toy, it's actually a real truck, but very small.

Moreover, these radio controlled cars can be used for racing and what man would refuse to feel oneself a racer. It is much more fun than computer games, that is why RC cars are so attractive to adult men.
Evidently, radio-controlled trucks are a wonderful pastime. But still do not forget that it will demand a lot of maintenance, repair and upgrading. So this hobby is quite expensive, but it is a truly unforgettable experience.
