  • A Change is Gonna Come
    by Meredith Grey

"...Change; we don't like it, we fear it, but we can't stop it from coming. We either adapt to change, or we get left behind. It hurts to grow, anybody who tells you it doesn't is lying. But here's the truth: Sometimes the more things change, the more they stay the same. And sometimes, oh, sometimes change is good. Sometimes change is everything...."

Article Content :Toy manufacturers understand that their products are more popular than ever despite the numerous video games and digital toys that have been dominant within the market for years. Video games and mobile device applications have revolutionized how kids play and have fun in the modern era. A lot of children play video games that resemble live action animated movies or a Saturday morning cartoon show. They also play mobile app games that allow them to fling birds through the air with slingshots or solve puzzles in worlds filled with candy and adventure. Even though video based games are fun and offer a different experience to young children, they still cannot replace the appeal of physical toys. Children still like to manipulate physical toys because they give them the ability to use their imagination, creativity and they offer a form of realism that is not present with digital games. Being able to throw a ball in real life is better than throwing an object in a virtual world on a video game. Many young girls would rather feed a toy baby doll with a bottle instead of performing the act digitally. Also, toy manufacturers have created some playthings in the past that still continue to appeal to children of different generations. Toys such as hula hoops, Frisbees, jump ropes, bouncing balls, action figures, Legos, Barbie dolls, stuffed animals, building blocks and sidewalk chalk still remain relevant to children. People should keep in mind that digital games haven't been around for a long period of time when compared to physical toys. Video games started to make an inroad into the culture around 1970s and since then they have grown into a standard form of entertainment for children. However, many public elementary schools and daycare centers do not use video games as the main form of entertainment or recreation for children. All across the country many educators and parents understand how important it is for children to have tangible items that can be held and controlled. Board games also fall under the toy category and many board games from the past still remain popular today. Some of the video games that people currently play today are based off of board games that have been around for centuries. Ancient games such as chess and checkers influence how modern strategy and action games are played on video gaming systems. Monopoly, Connect 4, Sorry and Jenga are board games that have lasted over the years and still continue to entertain people during family night. Playing cards, dominoes and backgammon still remain a favorite for many older people who did not grow up in the era of digital games. Even though card games such as Gin Rummy, Go Fish, Black Jack or Spades are not as popular as they used to be, kids still learn how to play these games for the purpose of socializing. Toy manufacturers also have the challenge of creating new and exciting physical toys that children will find engaging. Robotic toys have become popular during the 2010s and Lego play sets have reemerged as a major force in the modern toy market. Also, a lot of toys that are being produced today are based on movie themes and comic book characters. As a matter of fact certain toy companies, such as Hasbro, have turned some of their products into movies. Films such as the Transformers franchise and Battleship are two examples of movies that are based off of popular action figures and a board game. Toy manufacturers realize that people will always want toys and they continue to create new and exciting playthings that will keep children entertained for many years into the future.
